AI bot on Telegram: how an AI girlfriend chat works inside a messenger

Telegram is full of bots promising “an AI girlfriend in your phone”. You open one and find either a script of five canned lines or a popup saying something went wrong, try again later. The difference between that and a real companion does not show up in a screenshot — it shows up on the tenth message. Here is how to tell a working AI Telegram bot from a toy, what ours actually does, and why we run three separate bots instead of one with a language switch.
Up front: this is not an advertorial about how great everything is. There will be commands that really work and limits you are better off knowing about in advance.
What an AI bot in Telegram actually is
It matters what sits behind the buttons, because every limitation follows from it. Under the interface runs the same engine as on the website: a language model holding the conversation in character, a memory store about you, and a media generator. Telegram is not “another service” — it is the shell: the transport, and the app you are already in.
Two practical consequences:
- Limits and subscription are shared with the site. One account, the same numbers, no matter where you type.
- The conversation history is shared. Start on the site, continue in the bot from the same place, and the character keeps the context. How the two are linked is explained below.
The other side of the same coin: if a bot stores memory, it really stores it. There is a section on this below — with a command that shows everything kept about you, and a command that deletes it.
Three bots, not one with a switch
We run three bots: Russian, English and Portuguese. That is deliberate, for concrete reasons.
Language is decided once and affects everything. Switching language mid-conversation breaks the conversation itself: the model starts mixing up the forms of address, shifts its register slightly, and the character begins answering a little differently. Instead of one switch, there are three independent bots, each with its own store and its own history.
A character's prompt is written in one language. The model instruction is text, not a set of rules. Translating it on the fly produces a character who speaks like a translation rather than a person.

Commands — the whole feature set in one list
The bot has a command menu; it appears as soon as you type “/”. There are nine of them, and they cover everything the bot is for:
/start— begin and confirm you are 18+. You cannot go past it: a service with explicit content is obliged to ask, and it is not a formality./characters— the catalog. Characters arrive as photo cards with a Select button, with a Realistic / Anime switch at the top and bottom. The conversation runs with whoever you picked until you pick someone else./memory— what the character remembers about you. The list of facts, and a clear button./game— a strip game: not a chat but a step-by-step mechanic with choices. For people who want a result faster than a conversation provides./premium— subscription,/tariffs— the tiers in numbers,/balance— your Crystal balance./support— a human, if something is broken./help— a short cheat sheet.
The menu button opens your account right inside Telegram: balance, current character, top-up — no trip to the website.
Photos, voice and video — buttons under the reply
Under every character reply there are three quick buttons: 📷 photo, 🎙 voice and 🎬 video. There are no commands for them, on purpose — a button gets pressed at the same rhythm you read at.
- 📷 Photo — then two options: from the situation in the conversation (the system assembles a scene from the recent messages) or from your own description. How that works technically is a separate piece — see how character photos are generated.
- 🎙 Voice — the character says the line in a voice rather than reading a caption.
- 🎬 Video — a frame brought to life. This is the heaviest generation in the whole system, which is why it is not in the free tier.
Practical tip: do not press 📷 into a vacuum. The picture is assembled from the recent messages, and if you have just said hello there is no scene to use — you will get something arbitrary. Give it a couple of lines that contain a place and a time.
Memory: look at it and delete it
This is the section worth reading more carefully than the others. Memory is what separates a bot from a random phrase generator, and it is also the most private thing inside it.
How to look. The /memory command prints the full list of what the character has stored about you: your name, work, city, the name of the cat, everything you managed to say. Not “an approximation of what we judged important” — the actual list.
How to delete. The clear button in the same place removes all of that character's records at once. It is not “please forget” — it is a deletion from the database. Worth doing if you have stopped talking to a particular character and do not want to leave details about yourself with that particular listener.
What to keep in mind. Memory is bound to the pair of you and this character. Pick someone else and you get a different listener who knows nothing about you — that is not a bug, it is ordinary privacy. Note that clearing a character's memory does not delete the conversation itself; for a full account deletion, write to /support.
One account for the site and the bot
If you started on the website and then opened the bot, those are two separate users, and the history will not move by itself. You can link them explicitly, in one direction:
- Create a character in the studio on the site, or open your character's page.
- Press “open in Telegram” — the bot issues a personal link with a token, valid for 30 days.
- Open the link and press /start. The bot sees the token and joins your Telegram to the same web account. One caveat: the link only works if that Telegram has not been used anywhere before, otherwise you end up with two accounts and two histories.
There is a reverse case too: a link to a specific character can be shared with anyone — it opens straight on them, with no picking process required.
The strip game
/game is a separate mode, not a chat. You pick a character and then a step-by-step game with choices runs: clothing comes off as you go, the score runs to the end. The point is to get to a result faster than building a scene through conversation. The character stays the same one, with the same appearance and manner of speaking — the dialogue is simply replaced by a mechanic.

How to pick a bot when there are hundreds
My checklist of five tests. All five take ten minutes and are enough to filter out most toys:
- Push the conversation to something explicit. If the character starts “let’s change the subject”, or suddenly says “I am a language model”, you have a censored assistant, not a companion. Nothing else matters after that.
- Check memory the next day. Name a detail, come back tomorrow and circle back to it indirectly. No memory means you have a context buffer, not memory.
- See whether photos arrive, and how fast. A bot that talks but cannot show a picture is half a service. And the reverse: photos with no memory is an image generator with a chat stuck on it.
- Open /memory. An honest service has a command that shows what it keeps about you. Its absence is a bad sign: it stores, but would rather not show you.
- Understand where the character lives. A site plus a messenger with a shared history is normal for a serious service. A bot with no site often means your data is heading somewhere you cannot see.
How to open it
Tap the bot's name and press Start. On the first run you will confirm your age — after that everything is available immediately, and a site account is not required. For the full picture of how the character chat works, see AI girlfriend chat.
