How much does an AI girlfriend cost: an honest breakdown of prices
AI application developer working with language models since 2022. Built several chatbots with memory and personality.
The question "how much does an AI girlfriend cost" sounds far too simple, and that is exactly why it can't be answered with a single number. In this niche nobody sells an "AI girlfriend" — they sell access to features, and the features are priced differently: chatting is often free, media is paid, and "unlimited" on a landing page means anything except what the sentence actually says. I'll break it down into numbers. First ours (every figure comes from code I wrote), then theirs (from their public pricing pages), and finally how to work out what it costs you per month, so you don't pay for the parts you never use.
A caveat about dates first: competitor prices change, and some of them are rendered by a script — the numbers simply aren't in the raw HTML, so there's no way to read them without a browser. Everything below is what was visible on their pricing pages in October 2026. Check again if you're making a real decision.
First, let's agree on what we're comparing
Every service in this niche sells three separate things, and ads routinely blur them into one slogan:
- Chatting — text messages. Usually capped by count, or "unlimited" but with a monthly cap on generations.
- Media — photos, short videos, sometimes voice. Almost always charged separately from a plan, per item or in credits.
- A plan — removes the message cap and usually adds a monthly allowance of credits for media.
"Free AI chat" and "free AI girlfriend with photos" are different products, and the gap between them costs money. So below I'm counting each part separately, to keep the comparison honest rather than marketing-shaped.
What chatting costs at Velvary
I'll start with the free part — it exists, and landing pages almost never state it in full.
Anonymous, no sign-up, on the site: 7 messages. Not twenty, not a hundred — it's a value from the configuration. The anonymous demo session lives for a day and the last 8 turns of the dialogue are pulled into context. After the fourth message a soft sign-up prompt appears; it blocks nothing, typing keeps working.
After signing up: 10 messages per 5-hour window. This is where marketing and code disagree most often. Not "10 a day" and not "20 a day" — ten per rolling five-hour window. The window resets relative to your first message, and the exact time of the next reset is shown in the interface. If you write continuously that works out at about 48 messages a day; if you write 20 a day you'll never see the limit.
Photos, video, gifts and voice are zero on the free tier. Voice deserves its own note: it isn't closed "on the free tier" — it's closed on every tier, paid ones included. That's a side effect of how the limits are wired, and I can't promise voice.
A new account starts with zero crystals. The sign-up bonus is switched off in the code on purpose.
Plans: what it costs to lift the message cap
Three plans. Prices in dollars, paid with Telegram Stars (100⭐ = $1) or crypto. The site doesn't take cards and never stores payment details. Every plan and every top-up is collected on the pricing page.
| Plan | Term | Price | Messages | Bonus crystals |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 3 days | $2.99 | unlimited | +50💎 |
| Weekly | 7 days | $4.99 | unlimited | +150💎 |
| Monthly | 30 days | $9.99 | unlimited | +500💎 |
One thing to understand before you buy: a plan lifts the cap on messages only. Photos, video and gifts are not included — the media limits are zero on the paid tiers too, and every generation is charged to your crystal balance. A plan is "as much text as you like" plus a starting crystal balance, not "everything included".
What media costs
Media is paid in crystals (💎) from your balance. The rate is 2 crystals per star, so $1 = 100💎 when you buy a custom amount. The ready-made packs: 100⭐ ($1) → 220💎 with bonus, 300⭐ ($3) → 700💎 with bonus. How the generation itself works is broken down separately in the piece on the photo generator.
| Item | Cost | In dollars |
|---|---|---|
| Photo | 14💎 | $0.07 |
| Gift | 5💎 | $0.025 |
| Video | 100💎 | $0.50 |
One detail about charging that matters: crystals are deducted after a generation succeeds. A failed attempt costs nothing — you're only charged when there's a result. The first photo is free when your balance is empty, once per account: that's deliberate, so a new user sees the product before paying instead of hitting a wall that says "1 photo — 14💎, you have 0💎".
Video works like this on the inside: a reference frame is generated first, then animated. That's two generations, but you pay once — 100💎 for the finished clip.
What competitors cost
Next: what their public pricing pages showed at the time of checking. Look at the spread — and note how almost none of them tell you what you actually get.
| Service | Free | First paid | Middle | Top tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Velvary | 10 messages / 5 h | $2.99 / 3 days | $4.99 / 7 days | $9.99 / 30 days |
| Reverie | yes, $0 | $9.99 / mo | $19.99 / mo | $59.99 / mo |
| Candy AI | yes, $0 | $12.99 / mo | — | $29.99 / mo |
| Blushly | — | $6.99 / mo | $15.99 / mo | $43.99 / mo |
| HammerAI | 600 messages / day | $9 / mo | $18 / mo | $35 / mo |
Cherry AI, OurDream, JustSext, Kales and Secret Desires all have a pricing page, but it's drawn entirely by script: the numbers aren't in the raw HTML. That's telling in itself — behind the word "free" there's either a monthly generation cap or a paywall on the very first photo.
Honest conclusions from the table:
- Our month is the cheapest on the market for comparable functionality: $9.99 against $12.99–$59.99. Plus a 500💎 bonus that the others don't offer in that form.
- The cheapest way in is $2.99 for three days. Everyone else's entry point starts at $6.99 per month — twice the price for a term that's two or three times shorter.
- On the free tier we're smaller than it might look. HammerAI gives away 600 messages a day, roughly twelve times our window. If what you want is sheer volume of free chat, ours is honestly modest and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
Why "unlimited" can't be compared
The word "unlimited" in this niche means almost anything. A telling example is HammerAI: its pricing page states outright that all paid plans include unlimited messaging, and right next to that sits a monthly credit cap — 1500, 3500 and 9000 depending on the tier. So chatting isn't capped and generations are, and "unlimited" applies only to the first half.
Ours works the other way round, and I think that's the more honest design: messages really are unlimited on a paid plan, and every generation is a normal purchase at a fixed price with no monthly ceiling. Which is why comparing services by the word "unlimited" is pointless — compare two numbers instead: what the entry costs, and what a photo costs.
The second trap is "free" on the front page. At most services "free" means "until the trial credit runs out", not "free forever". Our free tier is honestly limited, and "it's free with us" without a number is exactly the kind of claim worth refusing to compare on.
Working out what it costs you
Do the arithmetic from your own side, not from someone else's landing page. Three typical cases:
- Chatting only, and a lot of it. If you write 30–50 messages a day, the free window of 10 won't cover it, and Monthly at $9.99 is the cheapest way to lift it. The gap between our $9.99 and a competitor's $19.99 for the same month is $10 — that's more than 140 photos.
- Chatting plus photos. 30 photos a month is 420💎, about $4.20 at 2💎 per star. Add Monthly and you're at $14.19. At Candy AI, that same money buys a month of chat and not a single photo.
- Video. 4 clips a month is 400💎, or $4.00. Video is the expensive part, and it's worth buying on demand rather than "just in case".
And one last thing worth saying plainly: don't buy a month as a test if chatting isn't working for you. Three days at $2.99 and a week at $4.99 exist precisely for that — to find out whether the companion and the conversation style suit you before you commit to thirty days. The free tier is unpacked in full in the piece on free AI chat, and if you'd rather live in Telegram it's the same thing inside the bot — a short version of what the bot does lives on the AI girlfriend in Telegram page.
Refunds, cards and data
- We don't take cards. The site doesn't store payment details: payment runs through Telegram Stars or crypto. For some countries that's a minus, for others a plus — no card on file.
- Refunds follow Telegram's rules and EU consumer law. The content is digital and delivered immediately, so the right of withdrawal may be limited once you start using it. If your case is disputable, write to support and we'll look at it by hand — that's faster than a dispute with a payment provider.
- Deleting your account is a message from the email you registered with. Your chats and files are anonymised within 30 days; only what we're legally required to keep (accounting records, for instance) stays.
Short version: count your own numbers — messages a day, photos, videos — and buy the plan for the chatting and the crystals for the media. And don't trust "unlimited" from anyone, including us: only the chatting is unlimited here, and everything else costs exactly what's written above.
